Last year, I did a series of daily sketches. One that I liked quite a lot was a gesture based on a reference from New Masters Academy.

I liked it enough, in fact, to use it as the basis for some form and color studying. :) I'm not 100% satisfied with some of the proportions; I definitely find drawing with no gridding and no aids still to be a little challenging, and I do end up with some noticeably imperfect translations from life/references, but I got the idea down well enough.

I played a lot with the level of finish, debating how far to push the colors and such. I ultimately decided to not refine it completely.

Completed in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Corel Painter.

I thought this was a photograph at first. Great pose and the skin is amazing. You've done a wonderful job with colors and shading. I also like that you've included the WIP in the artist comments. I love to see how others create their work.

Thanks! I didn't know whether anyone would care about the WIPs, but I'm glad you like 'em! :D

I've got a lot left to learn about painting people, but I feel like I'm making good progress. :)

I really like you showing the progression of the figure in your WIP's.  As it evolves one can see the changes that develop and start to enhance the figure.  Your use of digital assistance, PS and CP, are tools much as the pen or brush.   The concept was originally a hand drawn work and you started bringing it to life through the digital assistance.   The lighting and texture have evolved to give a more lifelike image but still carry your original concept.  As you used the tools you were able to observe the changes and adjust accordingly.  It does take an artist to know when to stop a work.  Your figure is well drawn, lighted, and proportioned.   I really like it as is.  The artist learns every time they try something that is uncomfortable or new so if you gained a little knowledge in working on this figure then it was and is a success.  You could have used PS or CP to do the final photographic texture but you knew when to stop.  You used your Artist Eye to make this a beautiful work.   Well done.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explore the painting and to leave such an in-depth amd supportive comment!

And you are right: experiencing the difficulty and discomfort of pushing oneself is how we learn. I intend to keep learning. :)
